“Wherever the Art of medicine is loved, there is also a love for Humanity” - Hippocrates

The above thought stuck in my mind when I took up medicine as my career. I completed my MBBS from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka as my primary medical qualification.
Next, it was the time to select my specialization. I have been a sports lover since I was a kid. I loved watching tennis, cricket, football and kabaddi. I often saw players getting injured and falling recklessly on the ground, later being diagnosed with some serious injury to their joints, like ligament tears, shoulder dislocations, ankle instability etc.
It was at that time when I decided I wanted to be a Sports Medicine specialist. When I did research, I found out that this specialization had recently started in India and very few seats are available. So many players win the Gold, Silver and Bronze in the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, but there is scarcity of sports medicine doctors to treat their injuries. This is really heartbreaking!
I worked hard to get a seat for post-graduation in orthopedics. My hard work led me to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Medical College, Jabalpur and I did my Diploma in Orthopedics. It was a very nice experience to work under legends like Prof. Dr. H K T Raza, Prof. Dr. Ashok Vidyarthi, Dr. Brijesh Dadariya. During my tenure, I got a good understanding of sports medicine and joint replacement.
After that I did DNB Orthopedics, BPS Government Medical College, Sonipat, Haryana. Here I worked under Prof. Dr. Santosh Munde and Prof. Dr. Anil Gulia who gave me a chance to have hands -on experience on arthroscopy and joint replacement surgeries.
Currently I am working in the sports medicine department, Artemis hospital, Gurgaon.

Now some words about ‘The Cruciates’

Cruciates, the word comes from Latin language, meaning cross-shaped.
Foundation of The Cruciates was my second step Along with my wife Dr. Ruchika Kathuria, who specializes in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, I started The Cruciates.
The most important question -Why the word “Cruciates”?
This refers to the main ligaments of our knee, anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior cruciate ligament(PCL). These two ligament injuries are quite common, particularly ACL. It is this ligament in our body that is mostly injured during sports.
The Cruciates, the best arthroscopic platform in India focuses on providing the highest level of patient care with professional expertise. Our experts are trained in arthroscopic surgeries of knee, shoulder, ankle, all kinds of joint replacements ( hip, knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow) and Sports medicine.. Our highly experienced orthopaedic team practices all ACL, PCL, MCL and LCL reconstruction with fiber tape internal bracing.
We use the most highly advanced and latest technology in arthroscopic surgery that ensures instant recovery and mobility of the patient very after the surgery as compared to conventional technique that is painful and results in slow recovery. Our experts have been trained in the best of the institutes and have commendable expertise in all complex surgeries. Our team of surgeons and anaesthesiologists work together hand in hand to ensure the best in orthopaedic surgical care.
A well trained team of physiotherapists and the latest equipment ensure that you are quickly back to your routine. The Cruciates has a patient centered approach to surgery, post-surgical care, pain management and recovery.
We went ahead with this idea in our minds to help the sports persons to get timely treatment in our own country. We began with giving free consultations to our patients through video calls. And we look forward to conducting 5- 10 surgeries every month, free of cost, for the needy in future.
I want to make sure that no athlete has to quit and sit back only because he lacks the resources and medical expertise to take care of his injuries and physique. We have grown into a team of eight specialists. As more people are joining in, we plan to make “The Cruciates”, a self-sufficient organization fully equipped, with state of the art facilities.
As we move ahead in the second decade of the 21st century, I want to make India a self dependent country in the field of Sports Medicine. If we make such great athletes, we can take care of them as well.
At present we are providing services in Gurgaon, Hisar, Panipat, Jabalpur. We plan to expand in other cities; and tie- up with other big hospitals, where we can perform our procedures. The Cruciates want to reach every nook and corner of the country, to every sportsman. We want to be accessible to every game, every athlete, from smallest injury to biggest fracture, we want to provide best treatment to everyone.
This is just the beginning…
